INTERNATIONAL SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE LOSS DAY

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is an event in which people who have lost loved ones
to suicide come together to find connection, understanding, and hope through their shared
experience.

Also known as Survivors Day, the day was designated by the US Congress as a day where all of
those affected by suicide can come together to heal and support one another. Survivors Day
always falls on the Saturday before American Thanksgiving, as the holidays are often the most
difficult time of year for suicide loss survivors.
When someone is lost to suicide it impacts those who knew and loved them. For those people,
the grief and trauma can be especially difficult to handle. This day is all about assisting and
showing love to those who have experienced loss due to suicide.

How can one observe international survivors of suicide loss day?
1. Attend a Survivors Day event
2. Write it out through art, journaling or writing a poem
3. Attend a local grief support group
